For the person who has everything . . . don't give them anything. Or, rather, give them a voucher for a gift that's going to someone who has hardly anything.
Oxfam is offering such gifts on its web site and they include
- a brood of ten chickens
- starter packs of seeds and tools
- a bag of cement and roofing sheets
- a treadle water pump
- a goat
- a simple bicycle
- water filters
- mosquito nets
Give your grandchild, niece or nephew something that they will probably remember, even though, depending on their age, it might only begin to make sense to them a few years down the line. Until then, you will probably be that weird aunt or uncle who gave their gift to someone else.
