Zimbabwe features in UN absurdity
In the sad-but-true department. (It could be funny if it weren't so ridiculous and pathetic):
Zimbabwe has been elected to head the UN's commission on Sustainable Development.
Yes, you heard right. The development basket case - put in that state by its present political leadership - is now in charge of the committee to promote sustainable development. Talk about the United Nations shooting itself in the foot. I can't even imagine a more ridiculous equivalent. Perhaps if North Korea were to chair a committee on agricultural development; or Myanmar (Burma) on democratic development?
And, because of his role in Zimbabwe's corrupt and brutal government, the Zimbabwean chair has been banned from traveling to the the EU. Sounds promising, eh?
