[Maybe you're looking for the 2006 Chilcotin Fires ]
An update:
There is a really bad situation out here. Petrus at Eagle's Nest is putting up some of the helicopter pilots so he's getting their scuttlebut, plus we've been speaking with one of the fire wardens. Evidently funds are so tight that there's a real shortage of trained people; Wayne has been sending crews into dangerous areas who have little or no experience whatsoever. The fire fighting efforts are concentrated in the Atnarko Trench; yesterday the smoke was so bad that nothing could be done but today there are 4 helicopters and one water bomber that are going in there, plus some cat work. It's a very difficult area with steep cliffs. Don and Phyllis Irwin's cabins ("The Dean on Nimpo") at Little Charlotte are in imminent danger, as are all the homes on Charlotte Lake.
It was calm this morning but the fire clouds have started up again.
The lack of information for potentially affected people - us, Chris, etc. - is very upsetting.
