CBC: Fire evacuees given more access to homes. For the second day in a row, dozens of people forced to flee their homes in the Chilcotin community of Charlotte Lake are being allowed back to retrieve more belongings and to check their sprinkler systems. 

Canoe.ca: B.C. fire officials defend allowing a fire to burn untended for a month. B.C.'s forest minister and fire fighting officials are defending the strategy used of leaving a forest fire to smoulder for a month before it exploded into an inferno, forcing about 60 people from their homes and putting 2,000 others on alert.

Williams Lake Tribune: Historic homestead burns The historic Lonesome Lake homestead in Tweedsmuir Park, built by Ralph Edwards in 1921, has been consumed by wildfire. The property now owned by Ralph’s 77 year-old son, John Edwards, was burned to the ground July 24, when a month old forest fire finally reached the homestead. 

Georgia Straight: B.C. Liberals Shovel Money From Back of Fire Trucks The B.C. Liberal government was warned strongly in 2001 by its own director of forest protection that a planned 35-percent cut to his budget would result in disastrous fires hitting communities and costs of hundreds of millions of dollars, according to a confidential document obtained by the Georgia Straight through a freedom-of-information request.
